Challenge

The existing information architecture made it hard for learners to find relevant courses. Filters were inconsistent, sorting was limited, and repeating course dates created confusion. The challenge was to streamline navigation and filtering to improve discoverability, usability, and overall course engagement, while aligning with business goals.

Results of the Ideation workshop

Approach

We applied a Collaborative UX Design (CUXD) methodology with iterative research, prototyping, and validation.

  • Research & Synthesis

    • Conducted interviews and contextual inquiries with learners.

    • Built personas and current-state user journeys.

    • Identified pain points in navigation and filtering via Hotjar heatmaps and Maze task testing.

  • Ideation & Concept

    • Ran workshops with stakeholders to co-create solutions.

    • Defined opportunity areas and prioritized with an Opportunity Board.

    • Developed wireframes for navigation and filtering flows.

  • Prototyping & Validation

    • Built low- to mid-fidelity prototypes in Figma.

    • Conducted two usability test rounds with real learners.

    • Iterated filters (price, duration, start times, location), improved course list layout, and introduced dropdowns for recurring course dates.

Prototype, Mid-Fi.

“The research-driven approach — combining interviews, usability testing, and collaborative workshops — delivered deep insights and ensured alignment with stakeholders, leading to clear and impactful design improvements.”

Results of the validation

Outcome

  • Created a clearer navigation structure with consistent categories.

  • Designed enhanced filtering & sorting for relevance, price, duration, and popularity.

  • Reduced confusion by introducing dropdowns for repeating courses.

  • Proposed SkillCheck integration for personalized course recommendations.

  • Delivered validated wireframes and prototypes that stakeholders praised as “clean, intuitive, and business-impactful”

Lessons Learned

  • Combining qualitative interviews + usability testing created deep insights.

  • Collaborative workshops ensured alignment with stakeholders early.

  • Iteration and validation were critical — the second test round revealed optimizations not visible in the first.
